DESCRIPTION:O’Miami kicks off National Poetry Month with a pajama party like no other. \nStaged on a giant bed at the enchanting Miami Beach Botanical Garden\, the 2nd annual Poetry in Pajamas is a family-friendly event that welcomes children of all ages to recite poetry in their pajamas. \nPoetry in Pajamas was created by brothers Sam\, 9\, and Simon\, 6\, who started reciting poetry in their pajamas from the bottom bunk of their North Bay Village bunk beds. Their mom\, local artist Sara Kaplan\, shared her kids reciting poetry on social media and soon they began receiving poems from other kids in pajamas. Poetry in Pajamas believes in empowering kids’ voices and ideas through writing\, reading\, and understanding poetry. Kids may submit a poem to be published in the Poetry in Pajamas Coloring Book to poetryinpajamas@gmail.com. \nMiami’s Afrobeta will provides music and there will be snacks from Edible South Florida. This play is in Spanish. \nInspired by John Gay’s The Begger’s Opera and Ruben Blade’s iconic salsa song\, the musical was first performed by Teatro del 60 in Puerto Rico in the early 1980s before heading to New York\, where it made its way to Broadway\, garnered critical acclaim and boasted sold-out performances across Puerto Rico\, the Dominican Republic\, Venezuela\, Cuba\, Ecuador and many other Latin American and Caribbean countries. \nPrometeo is adding its own twist. Courtesy of Kenise Barnes Fine Art. \nThe Coral Gables Museum presents an opening reception for its new exhibition\, “Castles in the Sky: Fantasy Architecture in Contemporary Art\,” at 7 p.m. on Friday\, Feb. 15. This remarkable production explores imaginary architecture through the lenses of more than 25 contemporary artists – from Salvador Dali and Beatrice Coron to David LaChapelle – working in a wide range of media spanning painting\, drawing\, sculpture and video. The exhibition curator and select participating artists will be present for the opening reception. This event is free and open to the public. \nParticipating artists will include Gustavo Acosta\, Diane Arbus\, Clint Baclawski\, John Bowman\, Hannah Brenner-Leonard\, Michele Brody\, Adrien Broom\, Dean Byington\, James Casebere\, Laurent Chéhère\, Thomas Cole\, Beatrice Coron\, Will Cotton\, William Richard Crutchfield\, Linda L. Cunningham\, Salvador Dalí\, Thomas Doyle\, Peter Hamlin\, Cameron Hayes\, Robert Hite\, Julie Langsam\, Armando Marino\, Jonathan Monaghan\, Juan Garcia-Nunez\, Claes Oldenburg\, Lothar Osterburg\, Kevin M. DESCRIPTION:Hear ye\, hear ye\, Game of Thrones fans! \nThe 27th Florida Renaissance Festival once again transforms Quiet Waters Park’s 430 acres into the 16th century\, complete with jousting and turkey legs.  This year’s opening weekend\, Feb. 9-10\, is dedicated to “Game of Thrones\,” featuring costumed characters from the Emmy-winning HBO series strolling the grounds\, a replica of Iron Throne (photo opp!) and performance by Medieval Times Orlando. \nThis year’s festival will run seven weekends through March 24 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. Each weekend features a different theme: Time Travelers (Feb. 16-18); Viking Invasion (Feb. 23-24)\, Wenches (March 2-3)\, Swashbucklers and Sirens (March 9-10)\, Celts and Highlanders (March 16-17) and Harry Potter (March 23-24). Singers/songwriters Luis Enrique Mejia Godoy\, Katia Cardenal\, Nina and Sebastian Cardenal will perform.   \nSince the political crisis erupted in Nicaragua last April\, hundreds of people have been killed\, mostly teenagers and university students. All proceeds from the concert will go to the Nicaraguan Foundation for Economic and Social Development (FUNIDES) to provide humanitarian relief.
